PC Gaming is much different than arcade or console games because of the strategy and intellect involved. I know several people with military backgrounds whom are students of classic battle techniques and they swear this game reflects inherant truths of warfare; need for mobility, proper mixture of forces, what type of offense works against "X" type defense, value of intelligence etc.
It is in many ways, as great an intellectual challenge as chess, more interesting though. Starcraft does have a long and steep learning curve but the single player mode does a great job of warming you up.
If you haven't tried PC gaming Starcraft is reason enough to try PC gaming. This replayability is Starcrafts best feature as it never becomes old or tiresome.
If you aren't familiar with Starcraft you probably aren't familiar with PC Gaming. Instead of mindlessly clicking buttons as fast as possible success here depends on good strategy and making decisions based on incomplete information(fog of war).
Most people like the multi-player mode where you face either a human opponent or AI or both, up to 8 players total.
In this game, you control a massive army, and attempt to stymie (and destroy) your opponent's economic and military progression. By doing so, you defeat your opponent, and seize victory in your grasp.I eagerly look forward to the sequel, StarCraft II, and its expansions. After buying it, though, I had played through the campaigns so that I knew what I was doing, and found a moving story within it.The story of how the human super-nation falls, and a new one is formed, and how the heroes are cast off as traitors amazes me. Over the past several weeks, we've been doing the occasional 1v1, and are generally having a great time. It, and it's expansion, Brood War, are played by millions worldwide. StarCraft is a game developed by Blizzard Entertainment, and is, to this day, a major game in the RTS genre of games. It is referred to as an e-sport, and truly sticks to the Blizzard mantra of "Easy to learn; hard to master."I got this game through a friend's suggestion; wanting to hone my skills in RTS games, I eagerly accepted and bought the game so I could play alongside him. The depth of the Zerg and Protoss campaigns are inspiring, and truly better than some more modern titles' stories.Control groups were a great thing to be introduced to, and I was pleased that there are no "Hero-Units," as there are in Warcraft 3 (except in the campaign).
This game would be incredibly fun to play at a LAN Party but I never went to one yet. It is so much fun to play and very addicting. This game is phenominal to say the least. It is very fun and was the first RTS game i've ever played once a friend introduced me to it. The only reason I sold it is because not many people play online, and the ones that do will take you out in a heartbeat and the single player missions go by pretty fast.
After 12 years, I still enjoy playing it. I had this game since the first time that it came out. It just an intense strategy game where you have a lot to learn and to improve.
If you didn't play it before you now is your chance. Play it before Starcraft 2 comes out. For 20 bucks. I'm running it on a xp machine home. It deserved to be. I now see why this game was such a hit. Even ten years later it's a fun game to play. What a bargain.
